In response to the U.S. attack on its
nuclear facilities this past weekend, Iran fired several missiles at an
American military base in Qatar on Monday.
·
The Trump administration and Qatar
were informed in advance of the Iranian attack, and there were no reported
casualties.
Why it's important. It's unclear if Iran's retaliation reached its full
extent after the attack on Al Udeid Air Base. President Trump thanked Iran in a
statement three hours after the attack for providing "early notice"
of what he described as a "very weak" missile attack.
·
"Force far greater than what was
witnessed" would be used to counter any retaliation during the U.S.
military attack against three Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend, the
president had previously warned.
·
However, according to a White House
official, Trump intends to communicate to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu that his current objective is to bring the war to an end. According
to the official, "We want a deal and don't want any more war,"

Qatari air defenses intercepted 14 Iranian missiles in total.
·
According to the source, one missile

"I can confirm that Iran launched
short-range and medium-range ballistic missiles against Al Udeid Air Base
yesterday evening. No American casualties have been reported as of yet.
·
The
U.S. base in Qatar seemed to be the only location targeted by Iran's missiles,
despite reports of sirens and airspace closures in Iraq, Bahrain, the United
Arab Emirates, and Kuwait.
What they're saying: Following the
Iranian attack, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the country's supreme leader, wrote on
X: "We will not give in to the aggression of others. This is the Iranian
nation's reasoning.
·
In an earlier statement, Iran's
Supreme National Security Council expressed a desire to de-escalate the
situation by asserting that the number of missiles fired at Qatar was equal to
the number of bombs used by the United States in its strike on Saturday.

·
The statement claimed that the base
that the strong Iranian forces attacked was remote from Qatar's residential
neighborhoods and urban amenities.
· "The noble people of Qatar, our friendly and fraternal nation,
were not in any danger as a result of this action."
A "devastating
and powerful missile attack" against Al Udeid was also claimed in a
statement issued by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
· "This base is the headquarters of the Air Force and the largest
strategic asset of the US terrorist army in the West Asia region," the
IRGC statement reads.
· The statement emphasized that Iran "will not leave any attack
on its territorial integrity, sovereignty, and national security
unanswered."
According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, Qatar's air defenses
"thwarted the attack and successfully intercepted the Iranian
missiles," and there were no reported casualties or fatalities.
·
Qatar, which often serves as a
middleman for regional diplomatic negotiations, vehemently denounced the
Iranian strike and demanded that the talks resume.
·
The
long statement appeared to have been prepared beforehand and was released just
minutes after the attack.
Situation: Because of escalating tensions in the region, Qatar had declared earlier
in the day that it was temporarily closing its airspace.
·
The largest American military facility
in the area is Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar. Many of the personnel and aircraft
at the base have been evacuated in recent weeks.

Monday.
The U.S. Three hours after the attack, the U.S. embassy lifted its shelter-in-place directive. According to a notice on its website, the embassy will reopen on Tuesday, and consular services will continue as usual.
